Derek Ishikawa Quoted in Daily Journal on New Federal Ruling on Employer Records
Derek Ishikawa was quoted in a June 8, 2020 Daily Journal article entitled “Employers’ injury and illness records must be released.”
The article discusses a federal ruling wherein the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is now compelled to release certain employers’ injury and illness records, allowing much greater access to these documents under Freedom of Information Act requests.
Ishikawa noted that making employer illness and injury records available to anyone who wants to file a request could fuel interest in workplace safety. Employees who are concerned about occupational hazards, or looking for information to back a complaint or lawsuit, could find these records useful, while public interest in these records could also make employers aware of safety requirements that have been rapidly updated during the pandemic.
